Krishna Jayasankar, currently studying at Texas-El Paso University, becomes only the second Indian shot putter to reach the 15.00m mark after Manpreet Kaur (15.21 DOHA 2016) in Indoors. She tossed the iron ball to 15 metres mark while winning the SILVER medal in USA Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Birmingham, Alabama, on Sunday (20 Feb).
Krishna, who initially pursued the discus throw, is studying in the United States under a sports scholarship, first entered the indoor arena this year.
Opened her indoor campaign with 14.01m to finish fifth in Dr. MLK Junior Collegiate Invitational meet at Albuquerque on January 22, she improved her performance to 14.20m in Don Kirby Open and Elite indoor meet at the same venue on February 12.
Krishna’s big toss came yesterday as she, after struggling in the initial stages of the competition, delivered her best on the sixth and final throw that touched the exact 15 M mark!
The Gold in this event went to Erna Soley Gunnarsdottir, who hails from Iceland, in a massive 16.79m. Erna was a Europen Junior Bronze medalist in 2019.
Lacee Barnes (Cayman Islands) claimed the bronze by throwing a Personal Best 14.86m on Sunday.
