At the same ceremony, Dr. Sangeeta Yadav, Academic Head and Head of the Mathematics Department at St. Joseph’s Convent Senior Secondary School, Idgah Hills, Bhopal, was honoured with the National Teachers’ Award 2026. During her teaching career spanning more than three decades, she has focused on making mathematics simple, engaging and practical, while placing strong emphasis on the holistic development of students.

Dr. Yadav has pioneered innovative approaches to teaching mathematics by connecting the subject with students’ everyday lives instead of restricting it to formulas and examinations. She has used examples from sports, social media, elections, the economy, technology and current affairs to simplify concepts such as percentages, probability, statistics, graphs, patterns and data analysis. The guiding principle of her teaching methodology has been “from rote learning to discovery, from fear to curiosity, and from passive learning to active problem-solving.”

Significant Contribution to Teacher Empowerment
Dr. Yadav’s contribution extends well beyond the classroom. As a resource person with the CBSE Centre of Excellence, Bhopal, and through her association with the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), she has mentored and guided numerous teachers. She founded Vidyavriksha, through which she has worked to foster a culture of innovation, research and continuous professional learning among educators through workshops, mentoring and Professional Learning Communities.

She has also made significant contributions to educational writing and resource development. In addition to editing and reviewing more than 30 educational books, she has participated in NCERT review initiatives and contributed to the development of Open Educational Resources under CBSE-CEMCA initiatives. As a mentor in CEMCA’s SheLEADS Programme, she has helped girls from underserved communities develop confidence, communication skills and leadership abilities.

Making Education a Means of Building Lives
Dr. Yadav believes that education must encompass more than academic achievement. She has been associated with initiatives relating to children with special needs, health awareness, social service and community engagement, while also considering students’ emotional health and mental well-being an integral part of education. She has conducted several sessions on yoga and mindfulness for students and teachers.

With a doctorate in Mathematics and an MBA in Human Resources, Dr. Yadav has also developed expertise in Artificial Intelligence, technology, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and modern teaching methodologies. She has contributed as a quiz master, scientific journal editor and columnist. Prior to receiving the National Teachers’ Award, she had been honoured with several accolades, including the Air India BOLT Award and Patrika Innovative Teacher Award.

Dr. Yadav’s achievement is being regarded as a matter of pride for the education fraternity of Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh. Her journey conveys a powerful message: when one student learns, one life changes; when one teacher grows, hundreds of lives are transformed; and when one school changes, an entire community can change.
