Grand Celebration of National Sports Day at St. Xavier’s School

Bhopal, August 29, 2026:
National Sports Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour on 29th August 2026 at the premises of St. Xavier’s School, commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian hockey player and “Hockey Wizard” Major Dhyan Chand Ji.

The programme commenced with a soulful prayer led by Rejoice Reji along with the school choir. The prayer sought blessings for the continued growth and progress of sports in the country, society and the school.

On this special occasion, Principal Rev. Fr. Leo Babu, Sister Leena, Sister Shiny and Sister Disha, along with the school’s sports teachers—Sachin Sir, Subhash Sir, Shaheen Ma’am, Rajan Sir, Rajendra Sir and Pramod Sir—paid floral tribute to the portrait of Major Dhyan Chand Ji.

Sports Minister Parinita Joshi highlighted the significance of National Sports Day and spoke about the vital role of sports in building a healthy, disciplined and confident generation. She also administered the Sports Oath to the students, encouraging them to empower and enrich their lives through active participation in sports.

In his inspirational address, Principal Rev. Fr. Leo Babu emphasized that sports are a powerful medium for building character and developing essential life skills. He encouraged every individual to include some form of sport or physical activity in their daily lives to ensure holistic and all-round development.

Sports Coordinator Anand Thakur proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the Principal, Fathers, Sisters, sports teachers, teachers and students for their valuable support and enthusiastic participation in making the celebration a grand success.

Massive Cycle Rally Promotes “Khelega India Toh Badhega India”
Following the formal programme, a massive Cycle Rally was organized under the inspiring banner “Khelega India Toh Badhega India.” Around 200 students participated in the rally, cycling from the St. Xavier’s School campus to BHL Sports Complex.

The rally aimed to spread awareness about the importance of sports, physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among members of the community. The enthusiastic participation of the students added colour and energy to the National Sports Day celebrations and conveyed a strong message that a fit India is the foundation of a strong and progressive India.

The grand celebration concluded with a renewed commitment among students and staff to make sports and fitness an integral part of everyday life.
